Hi I’m Tony Marti owner of Windsor Wine Shop. As the saying goes,
"what a long strange trip it’s been!" After leaving the rarified air of The
University of California, Berkeley, I dabbled briefly in the field of
Mortgage Loan Servicing. When I realized that a coat and tie couldn’t
possible be a permanent part of my future--I ended up in the business of
wine. There was a quaint little charcouterie/wine store in my neighborhood
in Oakland (one of the first "chalk-board" wine lists I remember) and, I used
to pop in regularly to see what was new. So, I became the
dishwasher/busser. Within a couple of weeks I was helping out in the kitchen
doing food prep. A couple of months later I was prep-cooking and starting
shifts as manager. Within a year I was lead manager and pretty much doing
it all. Somewhere along the line I met some nice folks at a local winery (we
were doing the catering for their events) and decided that it would be nice
to work at a winery. Yet another cut in pay! The long hours more than made
up for the lousy wages! Lo and behold --through several more twists of
fate--I ended up being the assistant winemaker. I managed to go to extension
school at night at U.C. Davis and learn enough wine chemistry to do the lab
work and save my job. When the expansion plans at the winery went awry, I
went to work selling wine. Sixteen years later I opened my own store.
My vision of Windsor Wine Shop was store dedicated to the consumers
of wine. For all I know about the fine fermented liquid, I still
feel like kid waking up on Christmas morning--there is so much that
is new and exciting in this field! My quest to find the finest wine
at the best prices continues . . .please join me!
